What is an AI trading desk?
An AI trading desk is a small system of AI agents that watch markets, explain moves, plan trades and challenge them, with code enforcing the risk rules.
A short definition
An AI trading desk is software that splits trading work between several AI agents, the way a human desk splits it between people: one watches the markets, one reads the news, one writes the plan, one argues against it. A separate piece of code — not the AI — decides whether a plan is allowed to reach the broker.
How it differs from a trading bot
A classic bot follows one fixed rule. A desk adds judgement around the rule: it looks for a reason behind a move, writes it down, and lets a skeptic agent veto weak ideas. Every message is saved, so you can always see why a trade was taken or skipped.
What it runs on
A small Linux server (VPS), MetaTrader 5 for prices and orders, a language model such as Grok for live news and X search, and a cheaper model for repetitive work. Docker keeps every part running and restarts it if it crashes.
What it cannot do
It cannot remove risk or guarantee profit. Markets are uncertain, models make mistakes, and costs are paid on every trade. That is why the rules live in code and why every desk should start on a demo account.
How to build one
You can build one without writing code: Claude Code writes the software from a detailed prompt, and you check each step. The course walks through it in 14 modules.
